Sunderland makes surprise move for Manchester City star

Sunderland have made a surprise move for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, submitting a loan proposal for the England international.

The newly ambitious Premier League side are hoping to secure the 30-year-old as they prepare for a demanding campaign that will also see them compete in the Europa League.

According to reports, Sunderland’s proposal would see Manchester City continue to pay a significant portion of Grealish’s substantial wages during the loan spell.

The deal is being considered as the Black Cats look to add experienced, high-profile players to a squad preparing for its return to European football.

Grealish’s future at the Etihad Stadium has been uncertain following a difficult period at City.

The former Aston Villa captain spent last season on loan at Everton, where he showed flashes of his best form before a foot injury brought his campaign to an early end. He recorded two goals and six assists in the Premier League before the injury.

The winger’s situation has become even more complicated following the arrival of new City manager Enzo Maresca.

Grealish was initially given hope of another opportunity at City, with Maresca praising his character and indicating that he wanted to assess the player before deciding his future.

However, the latest interest from Sunderland suggests another temporary move could now be on the cards.

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris is keen to add proven quality and experience ahead of the club’s European campaign.

The pursuit of Grealish is reportedly part of a wider recruitment drive, with Sunderland also interested in Marseille winger Igor Paixao as they attempt to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.

For Grealish, a move to Sunderland could provide another opportunity to revive his career and secure regular first-team football.

The £100 million signing from Aston Villa remains under contract with City, but with his long-term position at the club still unclear, the proposed loan could give him a fresh start while allowing Manchester City to manage his future.
