Thomas Tuchel set for major England World Cup roster shake ups

Phil Foden and Cole Palmer are reportedly set to miss out on the England national football team’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as manager Thomas Tuchel prepares to announce his 26-man selection.

The omission of two of England’s most high-profile attacking players is expected to be one of the biggest talking points ahead of the tournament in North America.

According to reports, Tuchel has decided against including the pair after inconsistent club campaigns with Manchester City and Chelsea, respectively.

Foden managed seven Premier League goals and five assists this season, while Palmer struggled with injuries during a disappointing campaign for Chelsea, scoring nine league goals in 25 appearances.

The expected exclusions come alongside the omission of experienced defender Harry Maguire, who confirmed on social media that he was “shocked and gutted” to miss out on the tournament squad.

Luke Shaw is also reportedly set to be left out despite calls for his inclusion following a strong season for Manchester United.

Tuchel’s selection is expected to favour a mix of form players and younger talents as England look to end their long wait for international success.

Ollie Watkins is reportedly set to earn a place after helping Aston Villa win the Europa League, while Ivan Toney is also expected to be included following an impressive goalscoring season with Al-Ahli.

Several other notable names are also believed to have secured places in the squad.

Noni Madueke is expected to make the cut alongside Arsenal trio Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and Eberechi Eze.

Meanwhile, John Stones is likely to retain his place despite an injury-disrupted season, with Tuchel reportedly viewing the Manchester City defender as a crucial part of his plans.

England will begin their World Cup preparations with friendly matches against New Zealand and Costa Rica before opening their Group L campaign against Croatia on June 17.

The Three Lions will also face Ghana and Panama during the group stage as Tuchel attempts to guide England to their first major international trophy since 1966.
