North London club Tottenham has appointed Ange Postecoglou from Celtic on a four-year deal to take charge at the New White Hart Lane stadium for next season. Postecoglou won five trophies in two seasons at Celtic out of the six trophies available to them.
He became the next Spurs permanent manager after the dismissal of Antonio Conte, who was succeeded in March by Cristian Stellini and then Ryan Mason on an interim basis. He is Spurs’ fourth permanent manager since Mauricio Pochettino in 2018-19, followed by Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Antonio Conte.
“We are excited to have Ange join us; Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our club,” said Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy.
Postecoglou is the first Australian manager to manage a Premier League club. First on the list of the duty for Postecoglou is dealing with the Harry Kane situation, deciding whether or not the English striker will stay back at the club or sell as La Liga club Real Madrid are keen on signing him to replace Karim Benzema, who left the club at the weekend.
Harry Kane is Tottenham’s record goalscorer, and the 57-year-old manager has stated that he will be glad to have him stay, but if Kane leaves, he will also be glad to reset the club.
Spurs have found it difficult to replicate the performances that saw them reach the UEFA Champions League final in 2018, having finished in the top four once since then. Furthermore, it has taken the club about ten weeks to get a replacement, with Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Arne Slot, Graham Potter, Julen Lopetegui, Rodgers, and Pochettino all linked with the role at some point.
