Erik Ten Hag wins the League Cup with Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has stated that the process of restoring the club to its old glory has started after he led the team to the Carabao cup trophy on Sunday against Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium.

Manchester United got a 2-0 victory courtesy of two first-half goals from Casemiro and an own goal to give them their first trophy since 2017 when the Red Devils won the UEFA Europa League under Jose Mourinho.

The club has now set the pace for a possible quadruple with Manchester United in the round of 16 stages of the UEFA Europa League after beating Barcelona in the playoffs 4-3 on an aggregate, and they will face Real Betis next.

Manchester United are also five points away from the top of the Premier League table, where Arsenal sits first with two points away from second-place Manchester City while the Red Devils in 3rd United resume to an FA Cup tie against West Ham United on the first of March.

The Dutch manager revealed that the club could draw inspiration from The Carabao Cup win after the boardroom efforts to inject staff and new players into the team in a bid to reach strategize and put the club back to its glory days.

“First, you have to win the first one, and that is what we did today. You can get inspiration from this and more confident that we can do it. We are still at the start of restoring Manchester United to where they belong, and that is to be winning trophies. This is the first one. They [the players] are good and connected, and they also challenge each other it is a good dressing room, and at the moment, it is difficult, they help each other out. It is the best a manager can get.” Ten Hag said.

On the other hand, Newcastle United continue to wait for their first trophy in over 54 years with the loss.
