Borussia Dortmund are growing concerned about Julian Brandt’s situation. The German midfielder has played a crucial role in their team this season, yet his long-term commitment to the club remains uncertain.
Considering his exceptional on-field abilities and his relatively young age of 29, which places him squarely in his prime, the club is keen to secure him with a fresh contract.
Brandt’s existing deal is set to expire this summer, after which the talented midfielder will become a free agent. Discussions regarding a potential extension have been underway for a considerable period.
Following his goal in Dortmund’s hard-fought victory against Wolfsburg on Saturday, the 29-year-old faced questions about his future once more and seemed hesitant.
He explained that it was evident they were in conversations with each other, noting that such talks had already taken place, but emphasized that there was no new development so far.
He further clarified that they were neither nearing an agreement nor had any decision been finalized.
Reports indicate that Brandt received a contract offer back in November, yet he has not signed it. However, he has assured that he intends to reach a decision prior to June or July.
Brandt spent five years at Bayer Leverkusen, where he solidified his reputation as one of the top young talents in the game. In 2019, he transferred to Dortmund when the club triggered his €25 million release clause.
Since joining, the German international has continued to develop, delivering numerous standout performances for Der BVB.
He remains central to their midfield operations, thanks to his precise passing, astute game intelligence, and knack for scoring.
In total, Brandt has featured in 292 matches across all competitions for Dortmund, netting 56 goals and providing 68 assists, an impressive tally for any midfielder.
Over this span, he lifted the 2020-21 DFB-Pokal trophy and earned a runners-up medal in the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League.
