Under-23s forward Tyrese Omotoye signs new Norwich City contract

Highly-rated Norwich City Under-23s forward, Tyrese Omotoye has penned down a new contract with the club, which will extend his stay till the summer of 2024.

The 18-year-old has been impressive for the Canaries and has made good progress this season. Omotoye scored a hat-trick against Newport County’s first-team in the Papa John’s Trophy, and also registered another goal against Plymouth Argyle in the same competition.

The Belgium-born forward Omotoye played for Cray Wanderers before he joined Norwich City. It was on 17 October 2019 that he signed his first professional contract with Norwich City.

Omotoye has made three cameo appearances for Daniel Farke’s first-team squad against Luton Town, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest.

He spoke about his contract extension, and expressed how delighted he was to get an extension. He said that it shows he has been working hard and the club and has faith in him.

He also spoke on his time with the Canaries, and made his feelings for the Norwich clear. He described his time at Norwich as a great place for him progress through the ranks.

He said: “The club is a really, really great place to develop. There are friendly staff, everyone is really helpful, it’s a place I love very much.

The young striker was also asked about his time spent with the first-team, and he stated that the experience has been ‘surreal’. He added that training with fellow striker Teemu Pukki is a valuable experience.

Omotoye was born in Belgium to Nigerian parents, but raised in England, so he is eligible to play for 3 different countries. In 2019, he made it public that Nigeria was the country he wanted to play international football for. However, Omotoye has so far played for Belgium at under-16 level, in friendlies against Portugal and Ukraine in November 2017.
