PGA, DP, and Asian Tour announce new alliance

The PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and Asian Tour have agreed on a new multi-year partnership running through at least 2029. 

This latest development is aimed at strengthening the ties between three of golf’s biggest circuits and creating new opportunities for players across the sport.

The agreement expands cooperation between the tours through additional co-sanctioned tournaments, improved player pathways, and closer coordination across Asia, Europe, and North America. 

The partnership also marks a critical shift in the balance of power within men’s professional golf. 

The Asian Tour has played a major role in LIV Golf’s expansion strategy over recent years, largely through the International Series, which was backed by LIV investments and promoted as a pathway into the Saudi-funded circuit.

Under the new arrangement, however, the Asian Tour moves closer to the PGA Tour and DP World Tour ecosystem. 

That strengthens the position of the traditional tours while reducing LIV Golf’s influence in a region it had identified as a major area for growth.

One of the most important aspects of the agreement is the return and expansion of co-sanctioned events. 

Those tournaments will offer Asian Tour players more opportunities to compete against higher-ranked fields while earning status and opportunities within the wider golf structure. 

It also increases the value of the Asian Tour’s schedule without relying as heavily on LIV-backed events.

The new agreement adds to the woes of the LIV Invitational, which is currently seeking a new source of funding. 

The league has often presented itself as an alternative route for players seeking bigger opportunities outside the established tours. 

Now, players can access other options, as the alliance provides clearer routes to major tours through traditional competitive pathways.

The strengthened relationship may also influence future player decisions. Rising golfers in Asia now have a more direct route toward the DP World Tour and potentially the PGA Tour, reducing the need to view LIV as the quickest path to elite-level competition.
