Vuelta a Burgos To Go On As Planned

On Tuesday, authorities of the Spanish race, Vuelta a Burgos have agreed that the race can proceed as scheduled. The race is slated to begin on the 28th of July to the 1st of August. It is the first event on the revised UCI calendar and would be the first cycling event to hold since cycling was suspended back in March.

Although officials have agreed that the race would hold, it would only go on if health officials approve it. This is as the pandemic is still considered a threat. Spain was one of the worst-hit countries and spent several weeks on lockdown.

Life is beginning to start slowly with greater precaution. So the race would only go on if it is considered safe and not a huge risk. But there would be an adherence to COVID-19 protocols.

President of the provincial government of Burgos, where the race would hold, Cesar Rico, has confirmed that the race would go ahead, and with the support of officials in the province. He also stated that approval would still need to be given by health authorities, within and outside the region and that the race would be in accordance with standards set by the UCI.

The race is divided into the women and men’s series. The women series, which was supposed to hold sometime in May, had to be cancelled, along with other races during the period.

Matt White, who is the sports director of Mitchelton-Scott, said, “It’s great to see Vuelta Burgos will be going ahead. We will now wait for UCI/team and Spanish health protocols to be finalized before we lock in more concrete plans.

After a four-month break from racing, everybody involved can’t wait to get season 2020 V2 back on the road.” He also said that Mitchelton-Scott would be sending a full team to participate in the race.

The 2020 edition of the race would mark its 75th year anniversary. The race is usually a buildup for the Vuelta a Espana, which is a bigger race. But for now, the Vuelta a Burgos has all the attention.
