F1 Reveals Saudi Arabian GP Would Have Fastest Street Track

The new season begins in less than 10 days and we continue to receive insight as to what the year holds for us. F1 authorities have revealed that the Saudi Arabian GP, which would take place in Jeddah, has the fastest street circuit of the season. The circuit has a total of 27 corners and measures about 3.8miles, making it the second-longest track this season, behind the Spa-Francorchamps track in Belgium.

Details have shown that the track would have an average speed of 250km/h or 155m/h. The track is meant to be temporary until a new one is built-in 2023. It is a street track that features some pre-existing infrastructure although the design team had to develop a little area.

Ross Brawn, managing director of F1, was very pleased with the development as he revealed the details to the public; “It’s always very exciting to release the details of a new circuit and the Saudi Arabia Street Circuit is no exception. The design brings out the best of a modern street circuit but also has fast-paced free-flowing areas that will create fast speeds and overtaking opportunities. The setting is incredible, on the Red Sea, and we can’t wait to see the cars on the track in December.”

The race would be a night show, as explained by HRH Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al Faisal, President of the Saudi Automobile & Motorsport Federation (SAMF); “We think it’s the best option for us. We are going to light the Red Sea and the lagoons around the track – and do some light shows. We had our first night race in FE and it was a success. In Saudi Arabia, we don’t have cooler weather so we can’t do a lot of things during the day, so people in our region like to go out more at night. We want them to see the race and after that celebrate with good meals and concerts.”

The race is the second to the last race of the season and would on December 3-5. It is the second Grand Prix to hold in the Middle East after the Bahrain and Abu Dhabi GP.
