Lando Norris wins in Monaco

Lando Norris defied all odds at the Monaco Grand Prix, marking his first win at the iconic Monte Carlo circuit and his second of the season. Starting from pole position, Norris managed to lead the race from start to finish, successfully navigating the challenges posed by a new rule requiring drivers to use three sets of tyres during the race, which mandated two pit stops.

The race unfolded as a strategic contest, with Norris fending off intense pressure from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who finished second, and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, who claimed third place.

Max Verstappen, who led for much of the race thanks to an alternate tyre strategy, ultimately dropped to fourth after making his final pit stop on the penultimate lap. Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top five.

Norris experienced a tense moment early on when he locked up both front tyres at the first corner, Sainte Devote, but he maintained his lead as Leclerc slotted into second place.

Throughout the race, the British driver was mindful about his pace and tyre usage, including during virtual safety car phases and traffic, which was key to maintaining his lead.

This victory allowed Norris to close the gap in the drivers’ championship standings, reducing Piastri’s lead to just three points. Norris expressed his elation after the race, describing the win as a childhood dream come true and reflecting on the demanding nature of the race. He noted the stress of the final laps with Leclerc close behind and Verstappen backing him up but celebrated the achievement for himself and his team.

The Monaco Grand Prix remains one of the most prestigious and challenging events on the Formula 1 calendar, with its narrow streets and tight corners making overtaking nearly impossible. Norris’s triumph at such a venue shows how skillful he’s become and how much more confident he has grown over the past months.
