Liverpool crowned Premier League champions amid dramatic final day

Liverpool lifted the Premier League trophy at Anfield after a tense 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, marking a successful start to the Arne Slot era. Despite being reduced to 10 men, the champions held firm, with Mohamed Salah scoring the crucial equalizer.

The Egyptian star finished the season with 29 goals and 18 assists, earning both the Golden Boot and Playmaker of the Season awards, equalling Thierry Henry’s record of four Golden Boots.

Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur will join Liverpool in next season’s Champions League. City’s 2-0 win over Fulham saw Kevin De Bruyne bid an emotional farewell to traveling fans.

Chelsea’s 1-0 victory at Nottingham Forest sealed their top-four place under Enzo Maresca, while Newcastle, despite losing 1-0 to Everton, secured qualification thanks to defeats for Aston Villa and Forest.

Aston Villa missed out on Champions League football after a controversial 2-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford. Unai Emery’s side had a goal disallowed for a foul on United’s goalkeeper, a decision that drew outrage from the Villa manager.

Christian Eriksen later converted a penalty to end Villa’s hopes. Despite the setback, Villa will play Europa League football next season alongside Crystal Palace, who qualified as FA Cup winners.

Nottingham Forest, though disappointed after their defeat to Chelsea, clinched a spot in the Europa Conference League. Their manager and players were visibly dejected at the final whistle, but supporters remained hopeful for European nights ahead. Brighton and Brentford missed out on continental competition despite strong campaigns.

Tottenham finished a turbulent season with a heavy 4-1 defeat to Brighton but celebrated their first trophy in 17 years and Champions League qualification via a Europa League triumph. Manager Ange Postecoglou praised his players and fans for a memorable season, though he remained coy about his future, stating he was “pretty relaxed” and hoped to return for the new season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s David Raya and Forest’s Matz Sels shared the Golden Glove award with 13 clean sheets each.

The Premier League’s final day delivered high drama and emotional farewells, with players like Callum Wilson and Jonny Evans potentially making their last appearances. As the curtain falls on a thrilling season, focus now shifts to preparations for European competition and the summer transfer window.
