Sergio Perez has now fully joined team Red Bull after making the move last year’s Christmas. Perez joins Red Bull from Racing Point, a team he spent seven years with.
The Mexican has now taken the seat of Alex Albon who has now moved to the reserve and test driver position and would team up with Max Verstappen to push Red Bull forward this season. Perez has been racing for over a decade now and had his first win at the Sakhir GP last season. But his performance last year was very impressive and it is expected that he would do better with this new opportunity.
For the 30-year old driver, joining Red Bull is a very great opportunity as he now has a place with a top team, something he has been looking forward to since he started racing. He said, “I waited all my career for an opportunity with a top team and I am so much looking forward to making it work. It’s a moment for me to prove it to myself that I can take the next step. These opportunities only come once in your life.”
Perez is still trying to find solid footing with the team, having only tested a Red Bull car in a simulator but he is already beginning to feel like a part of the team as he said that he was already sharing ideas that would help move the team forward this season.
He also commented on his teammate, describing him as “one of the fastest, if not the fastest, on the current grid,” while also stating that working with him was going to be a challenge. For someone who has been waiting a long time for such a team, Perez is quite optimistic about how well he would perform on the team and what the team has to offer him, and he said this himself; “I have been in the sport in different teams, in different eras and I think I know what I need from myself, but I also feel that I can push the team forwards in certain areas just by talking to the team.”
