Andreescu Out Of WTA Finals

World number four, Bianca Andreescu, has pulled out of the WTA Finals following a knee injury. The decision to withdraw came after her defeat in a quarterfinal game against Karolina Pliskova, a game she did not even finish as she had to quit just after the first set.

The knee problem is by no means recent as Andreescu admits entering the tournament with it, but managed to handle it well in the past games. However, by Wednesday, it became obvious that she could not go on, hence her early retirement from the game.

The Canadian teenager who won the US Open in September after defeating former world number one, Serena Williams, has enjoyed quite a good year. She had also picked up titles in Indian Wells and Toronto, and she has risen in terms of her world ranking. She was also voted as the Female Summer Athlete of the Year in her home country, Canada. At the start of the year, she was outside the world 100 but has now come a long way to be in the top six, a spot she would retain till the end of the year, even though she does not play again.

Speaking on the injury, Bianca expressed disappointment at the fact that it would not allow her to accomplish her remaining goals for the year. Her decision to pull out of the tournament became necessary after a look at the scan of her knee, deciding that she could not continue playing in such a condition. She may have to take the remaining days in the year to recover, and she hopes to do so much better next year. Bianca is no stranger to injuries as a shoulder injury made her play just two matches between March and August.

But she bounced back and made up for it by winning her first Grand Slam.

Bianca would be the second player to pull out of the tournament after a shoulder injury forced Naomi Osaka to pull out after the first round of group matches.
