I am ready to go for it – Carlos Alcaraz on chasing the number 1 spot in ATP rankings

Carlos Alcaraz is ready to reclaim his numero uno spot in the ATP rankings. Alcaraz is currently in second place in the rankings and he is 380 points away from Novak Djokovic, who is at the top with 7180 points.

Thus, if the Spaniard can go all the way in Indian Wells, he will once again take the top spot in the ATP rankings. Alcaraz had become the World No.1 after winning the 2022 US Open but could not play in the Australian Open 2023 due to a leg injury.

However, he was able to hit the ground running after making his comeback. The youngster won the Argentina Open by beating Cameron Norrie in the final but he was beaten by the Brit in the final of the Rio Open.

“I’m [feeling] really good right now,” the returning semi-finalist said on the tournament’s media day. “Today was the first practice that I practised with some players, [played] some points. I feel great. I took some days off and it was really good for me. Right now I’m ready.”

“It’s a really good goal for me,” he said of the potential double. “Of course playing a Masters 1000 is always tough and I really want to have a good result here. I love this tournament as well.

“For me, winning the tournament and being No. 1 again is a really good goal and I really want to go for it.”

Alcaraz feels he has a chance to go all the way in the tournament but also admitted that there are other potential players who can lift the trophy.

“On hard court, I think I’m a really good tennis player, so I’m going to go for it,” said Alcaraz, who has not competed on the surface since last November’s Rolex Paris Masters. “I don’t consider myself a favorite to win the tournament because [it has been] a long time since I played on a hard court. Of course, there are a lot of great players in this draw that have chances to win the tournament.

“I would say that I have my chances to win the tournament and I’m going to [try to] take it.”

Alcaraz will win his third ATP 1000 Masters title if he wins the Indian Wells. The Spaniard will play his opening match on Saturday.
