At the moment, I’m only talking about this season – Kylian Mbappe refuses to discuss future at PSG

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe was disappointed after the team’s 2-0 Round-of-16 second-leg defeat against Bayern Munich on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League. PSG lost 3-0 on aggregate and this is their fifth exit from the Round of 16 stage in the last seven years.

Mbappe refused to shed light on his future at the club after the team was knocked out. The talisman revealed that his next focus is to win Ligue 1 and he will take a call on his future after the end of the season.

“No, no, I’m calm. The only thing that matters to me this season is to win now Ligue 1 and then we’ll see,” Mbappe told reporters after the game. “At the moment, I’m only talking about this season. Nothing else matters to me. We are disappointed.”

Mbappe, who is known for his agility on the pitch, also showered praise on the Bayern Munich squad for outplaying them.

“Bayern have a great team, a great squad, they have a team that is built to win the Champions League,” Mbappe added. “I said it at the start of the season during the first press conference that we were going to do our best.

“Our maximum is this. That’s the truth. We need to do some self-reflection and return to our daily life which is Ligue1.”

Meanwhile, PSG head coach Christophe Galtier also concurred with Mbappe and said it was a disappointing loss as they didn’t bring their best to the pitch.

“It’s a big disappointment,” Galtier said. “We have to deal with it and accept it. There’s a lot of disappointment in the dressing room.

“I don’t know if it’s a lesson to be learned, but there’s a lot of frustration. If we’d scored first, it would have been different, but we didn’t.”

PSG had a good couple of chances in the first few minutes but Mbappe and Lionel Messi could not make the most of them.

“We didn’t open the scoring when we had the chance,” Galtier said. “We did well in the first half, we felt we could match our opponents, but we didn’t put away our chances.”

PSG will be next up against Brest on Saturday in Ligue 1.
