Karolina Muchova will face Linda Noskova in the Wimbledon final after edging Coco Gauff in a three-set semi-final on Center Court on Thursday.
The 10th seed defeated Gauff 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(12-10) in a match that lasted two hours and 35 minutes, saving a match point in the deciding-set tiebreak before securing her place in the championship match.
The defeat ends Gauff’s best Wimbledon run to date. The American reached the semi-finals for the first time and came within a point of advancing further, but Muchova found a way through at the decisive moment.
Muchova made the stronger start and took the opening set with a series of clean winners and consistent depth from the baseline. Gauff responded with more emphasis in the second, breaking repeatedly to level the contest and force a deciding set.
Neither player was able to create separation in the third. The set remained on serve before moving into a tense tiebreak, where Gauff recovered from 4-1 down and earned a match point on her own serve. However, a forehand error allowed Muchova to stay alive, and the Czech eventually converted her opportunity to complete the victory.
The win sends Muchova into her second Grand Slam final and her first at Wimbledon. The 29-year-old previously reached the French Open final in 2023 and had fallen in four major semi-finals before breaking through again at the All England Club.
Earlier in the day, Noskova secured her place in the final by defeating Marta Kostyuk. The result guarantees a Czech champion at Wimbledon and sets up the first all-Czech women’s Grand Slam final in the Open Era.
The matchup also brings together two players of the same nationality who know each other well off the court. While their friendship will be put aside on Saturday, both will be chasing the biggest title of their careers.
