This match will give me a lot of confidence – Carlos Alcaraz after beating Alexander Zverev

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz continued his domination as he defeated Alexander Zverev by 6-1, 6-2 to advance into the quarterfinal in the Madrid Open. Alcaraz broke the German’s serve in the second game of the opening set to put his nose in front and wrapped up the opening set in 33 minutes.

The teenager then broke his opponent’s serve in the fifth game of the second set to put himself in front.

The Spaniard was able to bring his best and delivered against Zverev. The youngster was a livewire on the court and got the best out of the German.
Alcaraz was delighted with the level he played against Sasha as he brought his absolute best.

“For me it’s amazing to play the level that I played today,” said Alcaraz. “It’s been a question mark for me… I played well, I feel really good right now and this match gives me a lot of confidence.

“At the beginning [I felt nerves], but you have to handle [them]. The best players in the world handle the nerves really [well] and I want to be like them. Trying not to show the opponent that I’m nervous at all. I just want to enjoy playing here in the Caja Magica in front of my home crowd. It’s been amazing for me to play here, so I just enjoy every moment.”

With this win, Alcaraz improved his H2H record against Zverev to 2-3. Alcaraz will play the quarterfinal against Russia’s Karen Khachanov.

“I will try to play this level,” said Alcaraz when asked about his quarter-final against Khachanov. “I will say this is my best level. I have to show that in the quarter-final, but obviously playing this match gives me a lot of confidence… Let’s see what happens.”
