Novak Djokovic is coming, doesn’t change too much whether I play Wimbledon No. 1 or No. 2 – Carlos Alcaraz

Spain’s young sensation Carlos Alcaraz returned to the numero uno position in the ATP rankings after winning the Queen’s Club 250 ATP event. This was Alcaraz’s maiden title on grass and it has definitely added a lot of confidence to his game.

However, Alcaraz admitted he won’t start as a pure favorite for the upcoming Wimbledon as Novak Djokovic will be returning to the championship. The Spaniard feels it doesn’t matter if he plays in the upcoming championships as either No.1 or No.2.

The 20-year-old lifted his first grass title by beating Australia’s Alex di Minaur by 6-4, 6-4 in the final clash.

“The chances are not so much,” Alcaraz said about his chances of winning the grasscourt Major. “Novak is coming to Wimbledon. Right now I’m feeling better than at the beginning of the week.”

“No. 1 before Wimbledon gives you some motivation and extra confidence for me to win Wimbledon. Doesn’t change too much whether I play Wimbledon No. 1 or No. 2,” Alcaraz said.

The youngster added it means a lot to him to win Queen’s Club championships. In fact, Alcaraz had a 4-2 record on grass before the tournament but went on to win all five matches to go all the way.

“It means a lot to me. Being able to win this amazing tournament in my first time that I played here for me is fantastic. To know that I’m (capable of) a good level on grass, obviously (to be) champion of every tournament feels special.”

The Spaniard bested players like Grigor Dimitrov and Sebastian Korda in Queen’s club ATP 250 and he will look to carry the same form. Wimbledon will begin on July 3 and Alcaraz will be determined to give his best.
