Boston Celtics Reward Payton Pritchard With Reported $44.2 Million Contract Extension Through 2030

The Boston Celtics have reportedly agreed to a two-year, $44.2 million contract extension with guard Payton Pritchard, securing the services of one of their most improved players through the 2029-30 NBA season.

Pritchard, who is already under contract on a four-year deal running through 2028, has earned the extension following a remarkable rise in his performances and importance to the Celtics.

According to the reported agreement, the new contract includes a mutual option for the 2029-30 season. This provision would allow both Pritchard and the Celtics to reconsider their arrangement before the final year, potentially negotiating fresh terms or choosing to part ways.

The extension represents another significant milestone in Pritchard’s journey since entering the NBA in 2020.

Boston selected the guard with the 26th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft after his impressive college basketball career at Oregon. Since arriving in the league, he has steadily developed into a reliable and increasingly influential member of the Celtics’ roster.

His improvement has been particularly noticeable over the past three seasons.

During Boston’s championship-winning 2023-24 campaign, Pritchard averaged 9.3 points per game and played an important supporting role as the Celtics captured the NBA title in 2024.

He followed that success with another strong campaign in 2024-25, increasing his scoring average to 14.3 points per game.

Those performances earned him the prestigious 2025 Kia NBA Sixth Man of the Year award, recognising his outstanding contributions coming off the bench.

However, Pritchard continued to raise his game during the 2025-26 season, producing the best statistical numbers of his NBA career.

The Celtics guard averaged a career-high 17.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.2 assists while playing 32.3 minutes per game, also his highest average playing time.

His consistent improvement across scoring, playmaking and rebounding has strengthened his value within Boston’s squad.

The reported extension underlines the Celtics’ confidence in Pritchard’s continued development and his ability to contribute over the coming seasons.

Having progressed from a late first-round draft selection to an NBA champion and award-winning sixth man, Pritchard has established himself as an important part of Boston’s plans.

With his future now reportedly secured through 2030, the guard will look to build on his career-best performances and help the Celtics remain competitive in their pursuit of further NBA success.
