Celtics Legend Paul Pierce compares himself with Luka Doncic, Jayson Tatum and Jimmy Butler

Dallas Mavericks’ talisman Luka Doncic has been in red hot form recently and therefore even the fans are very excited about the young Slovenian. The 22-year-old is taking big strides in the NBA and is transforming from a prodigious youngster to a Superstar in the league. Doncic has been the main man for the Mavericks for the last couple of seasons and starting from scoring to playmaking the youngster has been leading his team with stellar performances this season.

Despite a not so good start, the Mavericks have now improved their record to 17-16 and it is mostly due to Doncic’s heroics in recent times. But still, Rick Carlisle’s men are below the playoffs positions as they are currently ninth in the Western Conference. However, if Doncic can keep up this form then the Mavericks may have a shot at the playoffs this season.

It is safe to say that the Slovenian youngster is a joy to watch on the court and as time passes Doncic is expected to get better and be the face of the NBA in the coming years. The Mavericks talisman is compared with a lot of former NBA stars but what most people think is that his playing style is very similar to Celtics legend, Paul Pierce.

During his time, Paul Pierce was considered as one of the best players to grace the NBA and an absolute legend. But the former Celtics man is now an Analyst for ESPN. Pierce himself has admitted that he sees hints of his game in players like Luka Doncic, Jimmy Butler and Jayson Tatum.

Speaking about the three players, Pierce highlights the areas of the game he feels resembles him during his playing days.

Jayson Tatum – “Look at his silky-smooth game — he reminds me of a younger version of me. He gets the shot off any time he wants to.”

Luka Doncic – “If you watch his offensive game, there is not a spot on the floor he cannot get to. I know he’s not the most athletic, he’s not the fastest, but check this out: he gets his shot off every single time, any time he wants. And that was the best part of my game,” Pierce added.

Jimmy Butler – “Killer toughness. That’s something I believe I brought to the game, night in and night out. You knew it was gonna be a long night … You weren’t gonna out-work me.”

Pierce seems to be very impressed by these three players who are well set to be leading names in the NBA in the coming years.
