Premier League | Brendan Rodgers urging Leicester City to fight through injury woes

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has urged his team to overcome the issues they have been facing of late, with the increasing list of absentees due to injury.

Midfielder Harvey Barnes became the latest addition to the injury list as he injured his left-knee in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at home. Barnes is expected to go under the knife on Tuesday and is expected to recover in six weeks.

He has bow joined an injury list which already consists of the likes of Ayoze Perez, Dennis Praet, James Maddison, Wesley Fofana, James Justin and Wes Morgan.

The Foxes are currently placed at the third spot in the Premier League table with 49 points to their name. However, there are still 12 more games to go in the season and they might lose out on a top-four finish if they fail to produce substantial results in the upcoming matches. That will eventually hamper their chances of qualifying for the Champions League as well.

However, Rodgers is trying to keep his side motivated and has urged his players to fight through the problems.

“We have had injuries of course but we have also had European football to contend with,” Rodgers said.

The Foxes looked primed for a top-four finish last season as well but they eventually lost out in the race owing to a poor run of form towards the backend of the season.

“We haven’t done anything yet. People talk about the top four but for me, my attitude is that we are not in the top four until we see where we are at after the last game of the season,” Rodgers added.

“There is nothing to lose then because we haven’t got anything yet. You have to get to the end of the season and see where you finish in May and look at it from there.

“There are 12 games to go and it is a process now over these next three months and it is something we are going to relish and enjoy.”

“I think we see it with some teams that it can prove difficult but the players have been absolutely brilliant up until this point.”
