Stephen Curry saved Team USA from a major upset against Serbia in the Olympic basketball semi-finals in Paris.
The U.S. Olympics basketball team, featuring stars like LeBron James and Curry, was heavily favored but trailed 76-63 at the start of the final quarter.
Serbia, led by NBA MVP Nikola Jokić, was in control until a crucial moment when the U.S. scored six points in two seconds. Kevin Durant hit a three-pointer while Anthony Davis was fouled, leading to another possession. Devin Booker then nailed a three-pointer, cutting Serbia’s lead to 78-73. This sequence rattled Serbia and boosted the U.S., with Curry hitting two more three-pointers to secure a 95-91 victory. Curry finished with 36 points, and James recorded a triple-double.
For Serbia, Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 20 points, and Jokić had 17 points and 11 assists. Joel Embiid, who faced boos for playing for the U.S. instead of France, added 19 points.
The U.S., aiming for their fifth consecutive gold medal, will face France in the final. France advanced by beating Germany 73-69, with Victor Wembanyama suffering a cut to his neck near the end of the game.
Previously undefeated Germany was stunned by hosts France in the first semi-final. Victor Wembanyama inspired Les Bleus to a thrilling victory over the FIBA Basketball World Cup champions at Bercy Arena.
The U.S. has won gold in eight of the last ten Olympics, with their previous miss being a bronze in 2004.
