After two years at Boston Celtics, Kemba Walker has moved on and joined the New York Knicks. The 31-year-old is delighted to return back home for the new season as he gears up for a new challenge.
The All Star point guard was traded to Oklahoma City Thunder by the Celtics this offseason. He then entered a sign and trade deal with his home team. The Knicks will be welcoming Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier together. The duo have been together in Boston Celtics and now they will be teammates again at the Maddison Square Garden.
Walker is an exceptional player and there are no second thoughts about it. But it is his troubling knee condition that has been a major cause of concern for the point guard. Overlooking his injuries the Knicks have welcomed him with open arms.
Senior NBA writer at ESPN Marc J. Spears highlighted in an interview why Kemba Walker can be a perfect fit for the Knicks in the upcoming season. He said – “I got a couple of reasons. Shooting, passing, one-two scoring punch with Derrick Rose, character, but the main thing is embracing coming home.
“This is a great time for this 31-year old to get back to New York close to the Bronx where he was a superstar in high school… Assuming that Kemba can stay healthy coming back home at this stage of his career is certainly healthy for his soul too. Because they’re going to be rooting for the hometown kid.”
Kemba Walker and Derrick Rose pairing up for the Knicks will be exciting to watch in the upcoming NBA season. The New York Knicks had a breakthrough season as they progressed through to the postseason for the first time since 2013. Although it was a great achievement and a lot of fans were excited. Many of them thought that their postseason ended way before than expected.
The Knicks have a very young roster surrounding Derrick Rose. The former Bulls man had a great year with the Knicks and now with Kemba Walker alongside him, Rose will only get better. Similarly, players like RJ Barrett and Julius Randle will also improve with Walker’s exceptional playmaking skills.
