Medvedev wishes to play against Rafael Nadal on clay courts as his dream 1000s Masters game

Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev has recently given an interview on ATP speaking on several topics. He spoke about his memorable match at the 1000s masters and his most celebrated victory in the men’s tour.

The World No. 2 is currently featuring in the Cincinnati Masters and is in great stead after winning the National Bank Open. There he defeated United States of America’s Reilly Opelka in the finals.

During the interaction, Medvedev revealed that he would like to face Rafael Nadal on clay court which happens to be his dream match in 1000s event. However, he also admitted that he would not be able to win the match against the Spanish legend.

“I would like to play Rafa at one of the clay-court tournaments. I probably would not have many chances, but it is a great challenge to play Rafa on clay,” Medvedev said.

The Russian and the Spaniard has faced off once at an ATP Masters 1000 tournament. Nadal defeated the Russian on the hardcourts of the 2019 Canada Masters. The duo have not met on clay even once.

Therefore Medvedev wants to take up the tall task of facing Nadal in clay courts.

“I didn’t have this moment so far, so it would be a great match. I want the challenge that is almost impossible to make, but there are people who made it — people of my age — so I want to try.” Medvedev said.

The 25-year-old spoke about his biggest win in the 1000s Masters when he defeated Novak Djokovic in 2019 at Cincinnati Masters. It was a roller coaster journey for Medvedev as he came back from a set down to defeat the Serb who was the defending champion back then.

“Of course there are a lot, but I would say the win over Novak in Cincinnati [in 2019] because that allowed me to go into the final and to win the tournament. I lost the first set and I was crazy tired after everything that was going on in that summer of 2019. I managed to step up and beat him in a good way,” Medvedev said.

Medvedev is in the round of 32 at the Cincinnati Masters and the Russian will face Bulgarian star, Grigor Dimitrov.
