Team World Wins Laver Cup

Taylor Fritz led Team World to a 15-9 victory over Team Europe at the 2025 Laver Cup held at San Francisco’s Chase Center.

Fritz sealed the win in the final match of the event by defeating Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6(4), earning Team World their third overall Laver Cup title.

Team World had established a strong lead by the end of Saturday’s matches, going into the final day with a 9-3 advantage.

However, the Sunday schedule awarded three points per match, meaning Team Europe still had a chance to catch up. Early on Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud won a doubles match for Team Europe, cutting the deficit to 9-6. Soon after, Alex de Minaur from Australia brought the gap back to six points with a win over Jakub Mensik.

Alcaraz continued to fight back by defeating Francisco Cerundolo in singles, narrowing the score to 12-9 and keeping Team Europe’s chances alive.

Alexander Zverev then faced Fritz with the opportunity to equalise the overall score at 12-all, but Fritz maintained control through both sets and ultimately triumphed in a tiebreak, clinching the tournament for Team World.

Fritz’s presence was quite key for Team World. He had already beaten world number one Carlos Alcaraz on Saturday night, which provided Team World with the morale to conclude the event on a high note.

The American credited the team atmosphere and the motivation from captain Andre Agassi as important factors that helped him perform well under the unique pressures of team competition.

Other players also contributed to the victory, with Australian Alex de Minaur having a perfect singles record, adding several points for Team World.

Francisco Cerúndolo also contributed with singles wins, while Alex Michelsen and Reilly Opelka played in doubles matches and added points despite some losses.

Brazilian Joao Fonseca won an important opening singles win, and despite mixed results from the other players, the collective effort of the entire team helped secure Team World’s 15-9 win over Team Europe.
