He’s not considered a Jordan, he’s not considered a Magic Johnson – Glen Davis why Steph Curry was kept out of GOAT debate

Golden State Warriors defeated Boston Celtics to win the NBA 2021-22 championship. The Dubs guard Stephen Curry played a key role for the team throughout the edition to lead them to glory. Curry was at his best and he was able to get the best of Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole to take his team to championship.

But, before the NBA finals against the Boston Celtics, one accolade which was missing in Curry’s impressive CV was the Finals MVP award. However, the 34-year-old was able to once again prove his mettle as he played at his absolute best in the six matches against the Celtics.

Curry was awarded the Finals MVP as he ticked all the right boxes. Curry averaged 31.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steal while shooting 48.2% overall in the NBA Finals as he was at his best.

Former NBA champion Glen Davis reckons not winning a Finals MVP award was keeping Steph Curry out of the GOAT debate and thus not many experts were drawing comparisons between him and the likes of Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson.

Glen Davis said on VladTV, “The man can win MVP of the league, he can do all this, break all kind of records, but if he doesn’t get that Finals MVP, he’s not considered a (Michael) Jordan, he’s not considered a Magic Johnson – you know what I mean? Because, you think about it, that’s the only thing that kept him out of the talk.”

Furthermore, in the previous season, Curry averaged 25.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg and 6.3 apg while shooting 43.7%, including 38.0% from 3-point range.
