NBA analyst Kevin Garnett reckons Anthony Davis will need to turn the tables if LA Lakers are to even make the playoffs in the upcoming season. The Lakers could not even qualify for the play-in tournament in the last edition after injury woes to Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
Davis has come under the scanner for his fitness as he hasn’t been able to stay fit and healthy, which has been a big blow for the franchise.
In fact, in the last two seasons, Davis has played only 76 matches out of the possible 154 games because of his injury woes. Thus, he hasn’t been able to support LeBron James and Co.
Kevin Garnett reckons Davis must go for the MVP award and he should take the onus of the team from LeBron James’ shoulders.
On the ‘All the Smoke’ show former Boston Celtics player Kevin Garnett said, ”I want to see Anthony Davis go for the MVP of this league. Literally, take the keys from Bron and put LA on his back.”
Garnett feels if Davis doesn’t have the right attitude then the Lakers might once again struggle to qualify for the postseason.
“If he doesn’t have that attitude they might not even make the playoffs”
Davis continued his struggle with injuries in the previous season as he averaged 23.2 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 40 games in 2021-22. It will be crucial for the Lakers that Anthony Davis stays at the top of his fitness and provide support to LeBron James.
Davis recently said he wants to play all 82 matches of the regular season. The Lakers will begin its NBA campaign against the Golden State Warriors on the 19th of October.
