After a forgettable start to the new season, the Los Angeles Lakers have turned things around with Anthony Davis being an absolute superstar for them. He has inspired the team to perform at a certain height and hence it has propelled them to a much respectable position right now. While the fans who were criticizing the Lakers at the start of the season have somewhat acknowledged that coach Darvin Ham is doing a good job as he has changed the fortune of the franchise.
But former Phoenix Suns superstar and NBA Analyst, Charles Barkley is not too convinced with the Lakers as he shares how the team would not be in the Play-In game if the post season started today. Barkley told this at TNT’s Inside the NBA show where he was very blunt about his opinion of the Purple and Gold army.
“Anthony Davis is playing great. I’ve told you for the last three years. He ‘s the guy who’s gonna take the Lakers where they want to. But where exactly placed are the Lakers right now? 13th! Hey, if the playoffs started today, they wouldn’t even be in the Play-In Game,” Barkley shared.
A horrible start to the season is making them struggle for a respectable .500 mark. They are still below it despite all the recovery in the last few weeks. So that has been a major concern for which they have not been able to reach the top six.
The Western Conference this season is very tight and a small streak of wins or losses can be decisive for teams in helping them climb up the standings or drop down. The Lakers are three games behind a direct playoff qualification spot, that is the top six. Whereas they are two games behind the play-in qualification (top 10).
The Lakers are currently 13th in the West with a 10-13 record as they recently lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 116-102. While Anthony Davis dropped 16 points and LeBron James came out with a double double, it was Donovan Mitchell who stole the limelight with a sensational 43 point performance. Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen were great aswell as both recorded double-doubles.
The Lakers will face the Toronto Raptors tomorrow as they travel to the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto with the hope of turning things around once again.
