Dubois knocks out Joshua to retain IBF title

Anthony Joshua suffered a devastating fifth-round knockout loss to Daniel Dubois over the weekend. The defeat not only ended Joshua’s ambitions of becoming a three-time heavyweight champion but also raised serious questions about his future in boxing. Dubois, defending his IBF heavyweight title, brought to the match relentless aggression, knocking Joshua down three times before the referee halted the fight.

Leading up to the fight, Anthony Joshua was looking to re-establish himself as one of the leading men in the heavyweight division after a series of mixed results in recent years. With a record of 26 wins and 3 losses, Joshua had previously held multiple heavyweight titles and was seen as one of the sport’s biggest stars.

In contrast, Daniel Dubois entered the ring with an impressive record of 20 wins and just 1 loss, having recently captured the IBF heavyweight title. Both fighters were eager to prove their mettle, and the atmosphere at Wembley was electrifying as they stepped into the right.

From the opening bell, it was clear that Dubois had come prepared to make a statement. He started aggressively, utilizing his powerful jab and quick footwork to keep Joshua at bay.

Joshua, known for his boxing technique and power, struggled to find his rhythm early on. As the rounds progressed, Dubois’s relentless pressure began to take its toll.

In the second round, Dubois landed a devastating right hook that sent Joshua to the canvas for the first time in the fight. Although Joshua managed to get back on his feet, it was evident that he was shaken. The crowd gasped as Dubois continued his assault, landing clean shots that left Joshua visibly wobbled.

By the fifth round, Dubois had established complete control over the bout. A powerful uppercut sent Joshua down again, and while he rose once more, it was clear he was fighting on instinct rather than strategy. The referee stepped in after another knockdown, calling an end to the fight as Dubois celebrated his victory.

The defeat raises serious questions about Joshua’s future in boxing. With this loss marking his fourth career defeat, fans and analysts are speculating whether he can reclaim his former glory or if it’s time for him to consider retirement. Promoter Eddie Hearn hinted at a possible rematch but acknowledged that Joshua would need time to regroup.
