McGregor in negotiations for a summer comeback

Conor McGregor has stated that he is currently in negotiations with the UFC, with sights for a summer fight.

According to the Irish, he could make his return fight at the UFC White House event or any other bout slated for this year’s summer.

McGregor has been out since his 2021 leg injury against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. That TKO loss came from a fractured tibia, followed by a scratched 2024 fight with Michael Chandler due to a toe problem.

Now 37 with a 22-6 record, he has made it clear that he is not in retirement, despite his hiatus.

Speaking with DrinkLitt recently, McGregor opened up about what he’s recently been up to: “I am in negotiations with the Ultimate Fighting Championship about the bout, either the White House or thereabouts. Sometime in the summer, McGregor will return.”

His recent statement is as vague as anything he’s said in the past years. The nearest fans came close to seeing him in action again was in 2024 until he pulled out at the last minute. But it may not entirely be his fault as there’s also contract issues to straighten out.

McGregor claims his existing deal is void due to UFC’s shift from PPV to Paramount+ CBS streaming, tied to his record PPV sales. He revealed that he was seeking talks with Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel alongside White.

White confirmed at a UFC 324 presser that he had no active discussions then, but McGregor insists progress occurs.

A White House UFC event in June draws is where McGregor’s attention is now. He pitched himself to White for a spot there, back in June last year, sharing chat screenshots. If he’s able to sort out contract talks before then, he might just be on the fight card.

Still, fans have gotten used to McGregor teasing a comeback without actually following through. While many look forward to his return, there are those who are skeptical over the possibility of McGregor ever fighting again.
