Former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, has come out to say that a bout between him and Jon Jones at the upcoming UFC event scheduled to hold at the White House would be one of the biggest matchups of all time.
Ngannou, whose UFC contract ended back in 2022, is still eager to face Jones, whom he believes to be the only opponent that can currently match him.
The Predator made this known during a recent interview with TMZ. He was asked which would be the bigger fight between Jones vs. Alex Pereira and Jones vs. Ngannou, to which he replied: “You know the answer, you don’t need me for that,” Ngannou said. “Should I answer? Do you really need me to answer?”
Both Ngannou and Jones’ careers have witnessed some changes over the years. Ngannou is currently signed to the PFL, where he has fought just once since joining in May 2023.
Jones announced his retirement from the UFC a few months back, giving up his status as the heavyweight champion and avoiding a fight with current champion Tom Aspinall.
While others might think both men are not at the top of their game, Ngannou has a different idea, as he firmly believes the two of them can put up the “biggest fight of all time”.
He said: “Biggest fight of all-time can only happen with Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou. That’s all what I can say about that. No disrespect to other fights or other fighters. I became a world champion in the APEX with no crowd, so I respect fights [fights and fighters]. It’s not about the place, but if you want to say biggest of all-time, you make it biggest.”
Ngannou’s admission is not new to anybody who has been following him for a few years now. He had tried to make a fight with Jones happen while he was still in the UFC, but all efforts failed. He then focused on making it happen outside of the UFC, but he has not had luck with that as well.
There’s no telling how it would go this time, but there is no doubt that a fight between the two of them will produce sparks that will not just reignite the division but the sport as a whole.
