Leverkusen close in on Gutiérrez deal as club look to strengthen squad

Bayer Leverkusen are on the verge of completing a significant defensive reinforcement with the expected arrival of Spanish left-back Miguel Gutiérrez from SSC Napoli.

The move comes shortly after the club sold experienced full-back Alejandro Grimaldo to Atlético Madrid in a deal reportedly worth around €22 million, creating an immediate need for a high-quality replacement on the left flank.

According to mainstream media reports, Leverkusen have had a formal offer accepted by Napoli for Gutiérrez.

The transfer fee is said to stand at €30 million, a figure that includes various performance-related bonuses.

The agreement marks a notable investment in the 2026 summer window as the Bundesliga side look to maintain their competitive edge both domestically and in European competitions.

Gutiérrez featured regularly for Napoli during the 2025/26 season, making 36 appearances across all competitions.

In that time, he contributed one goal and one assist, demonstrating solid attacking intent from the full-back position while also fulfilling his defensive responsibilities.

His experience in Serie A and ability to operate effectively on the left side of defence make him an attractive prospect for Leverkusen’s tactical setup under their current coaching staff.

Beyond the left-back position, the club are also exploring options to bolster the opposite flank.

Reports indicate that right-back Zakaria El Ouahdi of KRC Genk is among the players under consideration as Leverkusen seek greater depth and balance across their defensive line.

If completed, the Gutiérrez signing would represent a clear statement of intent from the Leverkusen hierarchy, replacing a key outgoing player with a younger option capable of contributing over the coming seasons.

Fans will be watching closely for official confirmation in the coming days as negotiations move toward a final agreement.
