Allegri set to become Napoli head coach

Massimiliano Allegri will soon be announced as the new Napoli coach after reaching an agreement on a two-year contract with the Serie A side.

This was revealed by Gianluca Di Marzio, who said negotiations accelerated significantly over the last 24 hours, with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis now having a full verbal agreement in place with the former Milan boss.

Allegri, who was recently sacked by AC Milan after failing to lead them to the Champions League, got the job  after a battle with Vincenzo Italiano. 

The tactician is now expected to lead the club into the post-Antonio Conte era.

According to reports,  the club’s legal and administrative teams have already begun preparing the paperwork needed to formalize the deal. 

Lawyers and transfer officials are also working through the final contractual details before signatures can be completed.

However, before Napoli can officially announce, there is one final obstacle. Allegri must first resolve his existing contractual situation with his previous employer, Milan.

Once that process is completed, Allegri can go ahead and sign the contract that will officially make him Napoli’s new head coach.

Although already successful in Serie A, this appointment would be another major chapter in Allegri’s long career in the Italian top flight. 

The Tuscan tactician already won league titles with both Milan and Juventus and now faces the task of replacing Conte in Naples.

Having evaluated multiple candidates in recent weeks, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis chose Allegri due to his experience, trophy record, and ability to manage pressure at elite clubs. These attributes ultimately convinced him to push decisively for the former Juventus coach.

Once he is given the green light and the paperwork is finalized, Allegri will inherit a squad preparing for another Champions League campaign while also attempting to mount a challenge for the Scudetto next season.

Meanwhile, 38-year-old Matthias Jaissle has emerged as another top candidate for the vacant coaching role at Milan.

According to reports, this is based on the wish of Ralf Rangnick,  who is reportedly among the leading candidates to take over the technical sector in San Siro.

Milan won’t be recruiting a new coach alone, as they need an entire new senior management team after parting company with head coach Allegri.

Also, they parted ways with sporting director Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada, and CEO Giorgio Furlani the day after the 2025-26 season came to an end, due to the failure of the Rossoneri to qualify for the Champions League.
