Arsenal come from behind to beat Chelsea, while Everton holds United

Arsenal came from behind to defeat Chelsea 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, maintaining their 100% start to the Premier League season. 

Chelsea took an early lead through Morgan Rogers in the second minute, but the defending champions responded strongly to secure all three points.

Rogers opened the scoring almost immediately after kick-off, with Jorrel Hato providing the assist. Arsenal gradually settled into the contest and leveled in the 25th minute when Kai Havertz converted from a Declan Rice assist to make it 1-1 before half-time.

The Gunners completed their comeback just five minutes after the restart. Martin Ødegaard found the net in the 50th minute, with Crysencio Tzolis supplying the assist as Arsenal moved 2-1 ahead.

Chelsea pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages and introduced attacking options in an attempt to turn the game around. 

Arsenal, however, defended their advantage despite giving Chelsea significant spells of possession as the visitors searched for a way back.

David Raya produced a crucial late intervention to preserve Arsenal’s lead. The goalkeeper made an outstanding fingertip save in the 89th minute to deny Chelsea’s Estevao, who had cut inside from the right and curled an effort towards the top corner.

The victory keeps Arsenal at the top of the early-season title race and extends their perfect record. Chelsea, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat under new manager Xabi Alonso.

Elsewhere, Everton fought back twice to secure a dramatic 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Hill Dickinson Stadium. 

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring shortly after half-time before Tyrique George leveled for Everton, only for Benjamin Sesko to restore United’s lead in the 88th minute.

With United seemingly on course for their first away win of the season, Ainsley Maitland-Niles produced the decisive moment deep into stoppage time. 

The deadline-day signing from Lyon curled a stunning effort beyond goalkeeper Senne Lammens in the 96th minute to rescue a point and preserve Everton’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

The result highlights concerns for both sides. Everton, who have sold several attacking players and failed to complete a late deal for Folarin Balogun, are short of senior options. At the same time, United have now conceded at least twice in each of their first three league matches. 

Despite their attacking quality, United will need to improve defensively if they are to build on last season’s third-place finish.
