Manchester City reignited the Premier League title race with a crucial 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The result cuts Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to just three points, with City still holding a game in hand that could prove decisive in the closing weeks of the season.
The hosts made a bright start and took the lead in the 16th minute through Rayan Cherki, who finished confidently after being set up by Matheus Nunes.
However, Arsenal responded almost immediately, equalising just two minutes later when Kai Havertz capitalised on a costly error from goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
With the game finely poised at 1-1 heading into the break, both sides pushed for control in a tense second half.
It was City who eventually found the breakthrough, as Erling Haaland struck in the 65th minute to restore the home side’s lead, underlining his reputation for delivering in high-stakes moments.
Arsenal pressed hard in the closing stages in search of an equaliser, creating several late opportunities.
Their best chance fell to Havertz deep into stoppage time, but the German forward headed narrowly over the bar, leaving manager Mikel Arteta visibly frustrated on the touchline.
City, marshalled by a disciplined defensive display, held firm under pressure to secure all three points.
Late substitutions from Pep Guardiola helped see out the victory, as the home side successfully repelled Arsenal’s final attacks. The win could prove pivotal in the title race.
Arsenal had the chance to extend their advantage to nine points but instead now face mounting pressure, while City know that victory in their game in hand would send them to the top of the table on goal difference, dramatically shifting the balance of power in the Premier League run-in.
