AS Roma are closing in on a deal to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Arsenal on loan.
As the Serie A is currently on break ahead of resumption for next year, many clubs will be making some transfer moves once the January transfer window opens.
One of the Serie A teams that has been planning reinforcement is AS Roma. According to reports in Italy, this Gialorossi are close to signing Arsenal player Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
If the loan move becomes successful, the utility player will become the latest English star to move to Italy.
The Rome team already have Chris Smalling and Tammy Abraham on their payroll.
Maitland-Niles, who spent part of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal.
Jose Mourinho is likely to have Maitland-Niles, who can play all over the midfield. Such attributes offer Roma a much-needed reinforcement amid the manager’s complaints about squad depth.
He has played just 11 times this season for the Gunners in all games, having earned five England caps in 2020 after becoming an Arsenal regular under Unai Emery.
In another development, there are indications that AC Milan could sign Atalanta striker Luis Muriel.
The Rossoneri are also planning to bring a centre-back this January.
SportItalia’s Gianluigi Longari noted that Muriel, who is not having enough playing time at Atalanta, will also have to fight for shirt against Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
According to reports, he is planning a move away from the club due to the arrival of Jeremie Boga at Atalanta.
Although the Bergamo side would like to keep the Colombian striker, Juventus are also monitoring the situation.
The Turin club recently probed the ground recently. However, as things stand, no single negotiation have been, but it cannot be excluded for the future.
He might also be considering the fact that Ante Rebic and Rafael Leao will be back from injury next month. This could also reduce his playing time if he moves to San Siro.
