Barcelona beat Cadiz to maintain 8-point lead

Two first-half goals from Sergi Roberto and Robert Lewandowski were all Barcelona needed to get a 2-0 victory over Cadiz and maintain their 8 points gap above Real Madrid, who got a 2-0 victory over Osasuna on Saturday.

Cadiz thought they had gone ahead in the first half, but their goal was canceled before the Catalonians opened the scoring with two minutes left in the first half, while Lewandowski was able to add another within that short period of time.

Real Madrid’s victory on Saturday reduced the point guard to 5 between both teams temporarily until Barcelona play their game on Sunday night.

Real Madrid on Saturday managed a 2-0 victory away at Osasuna to keep up with league leaders Barcelona. Federico Valverde scored his seventh La Liga goal of the season in the 78th minute off a Vinicius Junior assist.

A stoppage-time goal from Marco Asensio sealed the victory in the absence of Karim Benzema, who was out due to injury. Real boss Carlo Ancelotti mentioned that it was a very important period of the season that Real Madrid needed to take victories in games.

“We’ll have to show good commitment, attitude, and desire to win; It’s a crucial period of the season,” Ancelotti said.

Real Madrid will face Liverpool on Tuesday in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16.

On Monday, it will be a relegation battle between Getafe and Valencia, with both teams just separated by 1 point. Valencia is in 18th with 20 points, while Getafe is in 19th position with 19 points.

Barcelona has 59 points at the top of the table, while Real Madrid is second with 51 points. Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid make up the top four in La Liga, while Cadiz’s loss sees them two points from the drop zone.

A Valencia or Getafe win on Monday will drop them into the relegation pool.
