Barcelona considers permanent deal for Marcus Rashford

Barcelona have opened talks with Manchester United over the future of Marcus Rashford as they look to extend his stay at Camp Nou beyond the end of the 2025-26 season.

The La Liga champions are keen to keep the England international but are unwilling to activate the £26 million (€30m) purchase option included in his current loan deal because of ongoing financial constraints.

Instead, the Catalan club are exploring alternative solutions with United, including negotiating a reduced transfer fee or arranging a second loan for the 2026-27 campaign that would include a mandatory purchase clause.

Manchester United would prefer to sell Rashford outright this summer, but discussions are ongoing, and no agreement has yet been reached.

Rashford has enjoyed a positive first season in Spain since joining Barcelona on loan, contributing seven goals and eight assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.

He lifted his first trophy with the club on Sunday after playing a role in Barcelona’s 3-2 victory over Real Madrid in the Supercopa de España final.

The forward is also in contention for further silverware, with Barcelona currently leading La Liga, reaching the last 16 of the Copa del Rey, and pushing for qualification to the Champions League knockout stages.

His performances have strengthened Barcelona’s desire to retain him despite their financial difficulties.

Head coach Hansi Flick has publicly praised Rashford’s attitude and professionalism, particularly his response to rotation and time on the bench.

Flick has highlighted the forward’s team-first mentality and noted that, after an initial adaptation period, Rashford is now performing at his best level.

Rashford himself has made no secret of his desire to remain in Catalunya, stating that staying at Barcelona is his “ultimate goal.”

While fully focused on helping the team win trophies this season, the 28-year-old has expressed his happiness at the club and in the city, underlining his determination to continue his career with the Spanish giants if an agreement can be reached.
