Barcelona kept their Champions League hopes firmly on track with a vital 2-1 comeback victory over Eintracht Frankfurt at Camp Nou, thanks to an unlikely double from defender Jules Kounde and an inspired second-half cameo from Marcus Rashford.
The win lifted the Spanish giants’ chances of securing automatic qualification from their group after another night that tested their resilience.
Eintracht Frankfurt stunned the home crowd midway through the first half when Ansgar Knauff broke the deadlock.
A precise long pass from Nathaniel Brown caught Barcelona’s defence high up the pitch, allowing Knauff to race through, shrug off Alejandro Balde, and fire past goalkeeper Joan Garcia to give the visitors a shock lead.
Despite dominating possession after conceding, Barcelona struggled to break down Frankfurt’s organised defence before the break.
Head coach Hansi Flick responded decisively at half-time, withdrawing an ineffective Fermin Lopez and introducing Marcus Rashford in search of greater pace and penetration in attack.
The substitution paid immediate dividends as Rashford was heavily involved from the outset, first creating a chance for Raphinha, who blazed over.
He ended up delivering a deep cross that allowed Kounde to power home a header and restore parity minutes into the second half. The equaliser shifted momentum firmly in Barcelona’s favour.
Just three minutes later, Kounde struck again to complete a remarkable turnaround. This time, teenage winger Lamine Yamal provided the assist, swinging in a measured cross that the French defender headed home to put Barcelona ahead.
Frankfurt struggled to recover from the quick double blow as belief drained from the German side.
Barcelona controlled the remainder of the match with growing authority, seeing out the win to maintain their push for a top-two finish in the group.
While questions remain about their tendency to concede first, the impact of Rashford and the unexpected heroics of Kounde ensured a crucial victory on a night when Barcelona once again found a way to respond under pressure.
