Domi: Ronaldinho was a talent immediately he stepped on the pitch

Former PSG defender Didier Domi has said that the French Ligue 1 giant didn’t get to see the best of former midfield maestro, Ronaldinho during his short stint with the capital club.

Speaking on the official Ligue 1 podcast, Le Beau Jeu, he said the former world footballer of the year and FIFA World Cup winner who joined PSG during the 2000-01 Ligue 1 season, was a real talent immediately he stepped on the field.

The former Brazilian international who joined PSG in during the winter transfer had to wait till the summer to play because he was not eligible to play a competitive game.

Speaking on his first action for the club, Domi said him and his teammates recognized the raw talent soon began training at the Camp des Loges, after completing his move to the club from Gremio.

Domi who also had stints with Newcastle United and Leeds United, pointed out that Ronaldinho only showed his world-class talent in France in a shortwhile before moving to Barcelona where he played his best game.

He also said that the former Brazilian international was a joy to watch in training in the first few months, as the teammates knew that he would be the right person for the team.

The former full-back said initially said no one had much interest in the Brazilian as they had not seen in him play except for some videos of when he was at Gremio.

He said the team started acknowledging his capabilities when he started to play in the toros, during the training sessions and afterwards.

Domi, who linked up with the Paris club from Newcastle at the start of the 2001-02 season expressed regret that PSG would have loved to have Ronaldinho for a long haul like he was for Brazil, but that didn’t happen.

He put this down on the way the game was being played in France then, adding that the atmosphere in the squad wasn’t the best then, making them not to see the best of the world cup winner except in games like the one against Olympique Marseille.

It could be recalled that Ronaldinho joined the team that had highly talented players like Nicolas Anelka and Jay-Jay Okocha, Mauricio Pochettino, Gabriel Heinze and Domi handling the defence.
