Kylian Mbappe’s stocks have seen a massive rise in the 2022 FIFA World Cup as he almost single-handedly kept France in the finals and dragged the game to penalties. Many people believe that he is the next big thing in the world of football and given his talent, there’s hardly any argument for that.
Recently his compatriot and Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano hailed him as the best footballer in the world. He kept Mbappe quiet when Bayern met Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 clash.
The Bavarians won the tie by an aggregate score of 3-0 and the Bayern defence worked very hard to keep PSG’s attack at bay. But Upamecano still feels that he would have Mbappe in his team than go up against him.
“It’s much easier to have him in your team. You have to always be well balanced, ready to move in any direction; to be vigilant, watching his positioning on the pitch and also his body language,” Upamecano stated.
Mbappe has been in superb form as he has scored 31 goals in 35 games across all competitions. He has been phenomenal for club and country for quite some time now. Hence Upamecano believes that he is currently the best player in the world. “He is the best player in the world – he is extraordinary,” he added.
Upamecano said this just before he will turn up against Mbappe’s primary rival Erling Haaland and Manchester City in the Champions League quarterfinals. Upamecano will surly gain motivation from his performances against PSG when he did not allow Mbappe or Lionel Messi to not score a single goal across two matches.
Haaland also has put up insane numbers as he netted 44 goals in 38 matches this season. It will be interesting to see how Bayern’s defence turns out against City’s relentless attack led by Haaland and others. The Norwegian will hope to do what his French counterpart couldn’t in the last round.
PSG are currently at the top of the table in Ligue 1 as they hold a six-point lead over second-placed RC Lens. Meanwhile, Bayern are also top of the Bundesliga points table but they have a slender two points lead over rivals Borussia Dortmund.
