According to reports in Germany, the Bavarians are set to sign Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nubel this summer.
The German champions have started to take a step towards rebuilding their squad by signing more young players this summer. The transition to having a more youthful team is likely to continue next summer as Bayern Munich seeks to rebuild a team that can achieve current as well as long term goals.
The goalkeeping department at the club has experienced no changes in the last few years. Manuel Neuer has been the undisputed goalkeeper at the club, while Sven Ulreich has been a reliable backup to the German shot-stopper.
The Bavarians may have to look for reliable long term solution in this position sooner than later as Neuer enters the twilight of his career. Though Club number one is still determined to achieve more success at the club, his form wasn’t the same as his early years.
Bayern has put into consideration Schalke’s Alexander Nubel as Neuer’s long term successor. The reports linking Nubel today began at the end of the last campaign. In the previous 13 months, Nubel established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at Schalke. The German club handed him at the start of this season despite the contact situations surrounding him.
Die Roten is reportedly going to face competition from RB Leipzig and hosts of other European clubs looking to poach the youngster. They are also keeping tabs on Nubel’s situation at the club. Bayern Munich is a favorite attraction for German players, but playing time is going to be a key factor for him if he decides to leave Schalke this summer.
Former Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has urged Nubel to reject a move to Bayern and continue his development by playing regularly for his club. Bayern must have a lot of conviction to prove to Nubel that he will get regular game time at the club. Nubel’s arrival will see a winding up of Ulreich’s time at the club.
Bayern Munich are backed 8.50 to win the 2019 UEFA Champions League.
