Beye’s future at Rennes uncertain

The manager of Stade Rennais Habib Beye has yet to know if he will be in charge of the team after the summer.

The former Senegal international replaced Jorge Sampaoli in freefall at the end of January, with the club under real threat of relegation.

Having signed a deal until the end of the Ligue 1 season with the option to extend in the event that certain conditions were fulfilled, it remains unclear what lies in his future at the club.

Les Rennais are already out of the relegation zone, and a comfortable mid-table finish is now highly likely, with too few games to allow the Breton side to launch a challenge for the European places.

According to reports, the conditions to renew his contract include keeping Rennes in Ligue 1, which is now almost certain, even if not mathematically guaranteed.

When asked about his future at the club, Beye was vague, stating that he was not yet in a position to discuss his future at the club with his superiors.

“We will see on 18th May,” he said on Wednesday. That date corresponds with the day after the end of the season,” they said.

Beye’s intention, however, seems to be to remain with Rennes, describing the club as an exceptional one.

The former Red Star manager added that for now, everyone at the club is focused on finishing a difficult season on a high.

Speaking on his link to Nante’s job, Beye said he was the one who turned down their offer.

He will face Nante on Friday (8:45 p.m.).

It was reported that Nantes was put off by the fact that Beye didn’t have a full coaching staff ready to go.

“My version is that what was said isn’t the truth. And that the one who refused to go to Nantes was me, not the Nantes club, so that’s clear. I’m where I need to be, I made the right choice,” the Senegalese coach said at a press conference.
