Borussia Dortmund complete Jobe Bellingham signing

Jobe Bellingham has embarked on a significant career move by signing a five-year contract with Borussia Dortmund, following in the footsteps of his older brother, Jude.

The 19-year-old midfielder completed a £30million transfer from Sunderland on Tuesday, marking a pivotal step in his promising career. This move comes ahead of Dortmund’s participation in the upcoming Club World Cup, where they aim to make a strong impression on the global stage.

Last season, Bellingham was a standout performer for Sunderland in the Championship, scoring four goals and providing three assists across 43 appearances.

His consistent performances earned him the Championship’s Young Player of the Season award. His contributions were instrumental in Sunderland’s push for promotion, showcasing his ability to impact games both offensively and defensively.

Sunderland’s campaign culminated in a dramatic 2-1 victory over Sheffield United in the play-off final at Wembley, securing their return to the Premier League after an eight-year absence.

Bellingham played a key role in this achievement, bringing energy and tenacity to the midfield. His ability to compete in high-stakes matches highlighted his readiness for a bigger stage.

In the 2024-25 Championship season, Bellingham’s combative style was evident in his statistical output. He won 257 duels, second only to teammate Trai Hume’s 274, and secured 44 out of 79 tackles.

These numbers reflect his work rate and physicality, qualities that made him a valuable asset for Sunderland and an attractive prospect for Dortmund.

Sharing his emotional thoughts in writing, Jobe revealed he will continue to love and remember the staff and players and, most importantly, the fans at Sunderland.

“Thank you so much, and good luck for the future.” He added.

Borussia Dortmund, managed by Niko Kovac, enjoyed a strong end to their Bundesliga season, winning seven of their final eight matches to finish fourth and earn a Champions League spot for the next season. Bellingham’s arrival strengthens their midfield, adding depth and versatility as they prepare for a busy schedule across multiple competitions.

Dortmund is now focusing on the Club World Cup in the United States, where they will face Fluminense in their Group F opener on June 17.

Joined by Japan’s Ulsan HD and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns FC, Dortmund aims to leverage Bellingham’s dynamism to compete in this revamped tournament, with high expectations for the young star.
