Celtic anxious as Hoops await latest update on Jota’s injury

The SPFL champions where in scintillating form as doubles from Adam Idah and Nicolas Kuhn added to a Ryan Strain own goal to hammer the Taysiders. However, the win wasn’t without its cost as Brendan Rodgers saw Celtic hero Jota carried off injured in the first half after falling awkwardly.

And now, it seems, Rodgers and Celtic are bracing themselves on a big update on the extent of the Portuguese winger’s injury. According to reports in Scottish media, Jota could be out for months and even miss the start of next season after his horror injury at Tannadice.

Jota returned to Celtic in the January transfer from Rennes as Kyogo headed in the opposite direction. Since his return, the Portuguese has had a huge impact with Celtic, scoring some crucial goals and making some vital assists. The report states that Rodgers and the Celtic medical team were hoping for good news about the injury on Sunday, but it seems that Jota could be out for several months.

It seems as though the Celtic fans will find out the extent of Jota’s injury pretty soon. Speaking in a post-match interview, Rodgers revealed the medical team is looking at the state of his meniscus, which is a bit sore.

“We will have to assess that. They put it in a brace to protect it, but we will see in the next couple of days. He added.

That would mean Rodgers will need to negotiate the last Glasgow Derby of the season and the Scottish Cup final without his tricky winger. With his current contract set to run till 2030, Celtic fans will wish Jota a speedy recovery but take comfort in the fact that they still have years to enjoy their superstar from Portugal.
