Celtic secure Kelechi Iheanacho in bold transfer move

Celtic Football Club have welcomed Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho on a one-year contract, with the possibility of an additional year, pending international clearance.

The 28-year-old joined as a free agent after ending his contract with Sevilla FC just a day prior.

The signing was a swift response to meet the Europa League registration deadline, addressing fan frustration over the club’s lack of striker acquisitions on transfer deadline day.

Manager Brendan Rodgers, who previously worked with Iheanacho at Leicester City, expressed enthusiasm about their reunion, confident in the player’s ability to make an immediate impact at Celtic Park.

Rodgers stated that Iheanacho possesses remarkable talent, athleticism, and work ethic, predicting that he would significantly contribute to the team and win over supporters with his dynamic play.

Iheanacho brings a wealth of experience from his time in England, Spain, and European competitions.

He first rose to prominence at Manchester City, where he secured the League Cup in 2016. In 2017, he transferred to Leicester City for a record £25 million fee for a Nigerian player.

During his tenure with the Foxes, he played a pivotal role in their 2021 FA Cup victory, scoring vital goals and clinching the winning penalty in the Community Shield against Manchester City.

Now in Glasgow, Iheanacho aims to rejuvenate his career as Celtic strive to retain their domestic title and compete strongly in Europe.

Supporters eagerly await his debut, expected once international clearance is finalized. This strategic signing bolsters Celtic’s attacking options and signals their ambition for the season ahead, blending Iheanacho’s proven quality with Rodgers’ tactical vision.

Celtic will have a glimpse of their new forward in action when they travel to face Kilmarnock at BBSP Stadium Park on Sunday, September 15.
