Celtic unstoppable, Rangers follow suit

In Scottish Premiership the battle for the title is raging on, but it seems the edge has gradually turned towards the reigning champions, Glasgow Celtic.

Heading into the second half of the season, Celtic and their local rivals, rejuvenated Glasgow Rangers went side-by-side, but Celtic has recently been the more dominant side – despite losing the head-to-head to finish off the year 2019. Rangers were closing in due to that victory, but then dropped the ball against the last placed team in the league, Hearts only last weekend. Now the Rangers are chasing Celtic five points behind, but do have a game in hand. On Wednesday night, both teams performed admirably and made clear that the title will indeed be decided between the two Glasgow clubs.

Dafabet sponsored Celtic have only lost twice in the Scottish Premiership so far, against Rangers at the end of December and Livingston in the beginning of October. They also dropped points against Hibernians late September, but now have won 14 out of 15 of their last Premiership games. As they took on St. Johnstone on the road on Wednesday, there was once again only one favorite.

As usual, Celtic took control from the early on and never looked back. Olivier Ntcham took the visitors ahead only six minutes in and James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths followed soon after on 20th and 26th minute. Celtic was up 0-3 before the game saw 30 minutes played and the rest of the game was just running down the clock. St. Johnstone have nothing to be ashamed of as they pushed back hard in the second half, but Celtic was too strong defensively and disbanded all efforts for a comeback. Celtics have now kept a clean sheet in 12 of their 23 games, only allowing 14 goals in the process, scoring a hefty total of 64. Only Rangers are even in the same ballpark with those numbers.

Speaking of Rangers, they too did win with a clean sheet, beating Ross County comfortably 2-0. They have conceded even less goals than Celtic, if only one with one less games played. Next up for the Rangers is Aberdeen on the 1st of February, while Celtic travel to take on Hamilton on the road on the 2nd.
