Wilfried Zaha scores as Crystal Palace win Wolves 2-1

A second-half Wilfried Zaha winner saw Crystal Palace secure a fourth straight Premier League win against Wolverhampton Wanderers, seeing the Eagles jump into the top half of the table on the back of a three-game unbeaten run.

With neither side known for their goal-scoring so far this season, a goalless first half-hour came as no surprise.

While Wolves had hoped for an upturn in form following the sacking of Bruno Lage, interim manager Steve Davis had struggled to change his side’s fortunes in front of goal, with the Old Gold finding the back of the net just once in the 180 minutes of action he had previously overseen.

However, they grabbed the lead in style at Selhurst Park. A superb counterattacking move was capped off by Hugo Bueno nicking out Adama Traoré at the back post, and the speedy winger headed home to give the Molineux outfit the lead.

The visitors’ lead was short-lived, though, as Palace restored parity almost immediately from the second-half kick-off. The wing-duo of Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze combined, the former swinging in an inch-perfect cross towards the back stick to leave Eze with nothing more to do than to nod the ball home.

The Eagles clearly wanted all three points and remained threatening on the break. After probing for some time, they were rewarded for their efforts on the 70-minute mark when Odsonne Édouard slipped in talisman Zaha, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner from close range to clinch the victory.

As their search for a permanent boss goes on, Wolves continue to slide. Four losses in their last five games have seen the Midlands club remain in the thick of the relegation picture, and they are now only one point clear of the drop zone after eleven matches.
