Things have been complicated for Chelsea. The club is in a precarious situation where it cannot generate income of any kind while it is in the process of being sold.
On May 31, the special license that allows the Blues to operate expires, so if by that date the club does not have a new owner, its permanence in the Premier League could be at risk.
Matt Lawton spoke to talkSPORT about it: “The scary bit is that on June 9, there is a Premier League meeting when all the clubs retain their share of the top-flight.
“If they are not in a position to do that, this would be unprecedented, but they may not be in a position to remain members of the Premier League. It really is crucial.
“With all this uncertainty, we’ve already seen it with [Antonio] Rudiger, there are vultures hovering and looking at some of Chelsea’s best players.
“At the moment, we think [Thomas] Tuchel isn’t going anywhere, but it is a very unsettling time,” Lawton said.
Currently, there is no clear favorite to take over the club. The bid process had reduced their list to about four or five candidates. A consortium led by LA Dodgers owner Todd Boehly is rumored to be leading the race to buy Chelsea.
But as revealed by former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan, the club’s takeover is more complicated than it seems.
The clock is ticking, and Chelsea has run out of time to define its future. Given this situation, it is very likely that we will see a very different Chelsea next season from the one we know, or in the worst case, we will not even be able to see the club compete in the Premier League.
