Cole Palmer’s panenka penalty seals Chelsea’s comeback against Tottenham

Chelsea staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Tottenham 4-3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Cole Palmer’s ice-cool Panenka penalty sealing the win. The victory moves Chelsea to within four points of Premier League leaders Liverpool, while Tottenham’s defeat adds to the pressure on under-fire manager Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham had made a fast start, with Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski scoring within the first 11 minutes to put the hosts 2-0 up. However, Chelsea gradually began to gain momentum, and Jadon Sancho’s superb individual effort reduced the deficit before halftime. The visitors then took control in the second half, with Enzo Fernandez and Palmer scoring from the penalty spot to complete the comeback.

Palmer’s second penalty was particularly memorable, as he cheekily chipped the ball over the Tottenham goalkeeper with a Panenka finish. The goal rubbed salt into Tottenham’s wounds and sealed a vital win for Chelsea. Palmer’s performance was all the more impressive given that he was subjected to objects thrown at him from the home end during the match.

Tottenham’s defeat was marred by injuries to key defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, who both returned from injury but were unable to last the distance. The hosts also lost winger Brennan Johnson to injury, and their defense hopelessly lost focus as Chelsea took control of the match.

The defeat is a significant blow to Tottenham’s hopes of finishing in the top six, and the pressure is mounting on Postecoglou. The Australian manager’s decision to risk Van de Ven and Romero has been questioned, and the defeat follows on from a midweek loss at Bournemouth.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are marching on into the title race, with Palmer leading the way. The victory is a testament to the team’s resilience and determination, and they will be looking to build on this momentum in their upcoming matches.
